| Rabbits need firm but gentle handling from a gentle age. They should never be picked up by their ears. Place one hand under the chest, the forelegs gripped between two fingers. Support the hindquarters with the other hand, then quickly cradle against your body. Never allow a rabbit to struggle violently as it there is potential for a broken backbone. Remember that rabbits have powerful hind legs with strong claws and can kick out and scratch if frightened. Visit the next rabbit show in your area and ask to be shown if you are still unsure. Rabbits are much less likely to stuggle and scratch when handled confidently and firmly. |
